Samsung introduces the i8510 Innov8 8 megapixel camera phone

After Sony Ericsson placed the focus on 8 megapixel camera's with the C905, Samsung worked on a comparable camera phone. Thuersday Samsung introduced the result: the i8510 Innov8.

The Samsung i8510, also called the Innov8, is a slider Symbian smartphone with impressive specifications. To just name quad band including UMTS/HSDPA support, 24 bits 16 million colours supporting QVGA (320 X 240 pixels) resolution display, A-GPS, accelerometer, WiFi, record video's in DVD qualty, 16 GB internal memory, MicroSD memory card lock (probably MicroSDHC), Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Symbian 9.3 S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 and of course a 8 megapixel camera with Dual Power LED, image stabilisator, face recognition, smile and blink detection. Especially the last is a new specification for camera-phones.

N96 possibly the biggest competitor
It may be clear that the i8510 Innov8 is mainly meant for gadgeteers, those who want to get the best out of their mobile phones. We think that this should work with the 8 megapixel camera and pre-installed 3D games. Nevertheless, a surprise is the fact that Samsung introduces a better high-end Symbian smartphone than those of the biggest producer of Symbian mobile phones, Nokia. Especially the N96, the new pride of the Finnish, keeps behind. Well, ok you can't watch any television on the Innov8, but you do have a 8 megapixel camera in a mobile phone that is 4 mm less thick than the N96! Furthermore there are a lot of similarities between those two phones: the display of 2,8 inch has the same measures as Nokia's N96 and his forerunner the N95 8GB. Also the battery capacity is the same with 1200mAH.

A video of its UI has emerged on YouTube:

This monster of Samsung is expected to lance in August in Europe. Prices are not yet known.
