Competitors bite back on Apple

Steve Jobs has angered Apple's competitors. The press conference last friday concerning iPhone 4's reception glitches started with a comparison with BlackBerry Bold 9700, HTC Droid Eris and Samsung Omnia II.

According to Apple, these handsets have antenna issues that are similar to those of iPhone 4. The competitors responded to the attack immediately. RIM, creator of the BlackBerry Bold 9700, was most angered of all. In words that cannot be misunderstood, the CEO's of the company summed up their madness. Mike Lazaridis en Jim Balsillie write: "Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable. (...) One thing is for certain, RIM’s customers don’t need to use a case for their BlackBerry smartphone to maintain proper connectivity."

HTC presents is own statistics

HTC replies Apple by unveiling the number of clients that called the helpdesk with technical issues. Friday night, Apple announced that 0.55% of iPhone 4 byuers call the helpdesk with complaints. With this information, Jobs wanted to put the issues into perspective. In reaction to these statistics, HTC announced that only 0.016% of Droid Eris owners contacted the helpdesk. That is 34 times less than iPhone 4 owners called for support, says the Taiwan-based company.

Nokia: antenna performance over design

Reception glichtes that affect iPhone 4 are reason for Nokia to announced that it gives antenna performance prominence over physical design, if they ever conflict. Nokia thereby implies that Apple does the opposite.
