Bloomberg: Apple Intelligence delayed until iOS 18.1

With much fanfare, Apple announced its own AI features in June, called Apple Intelligence. It was supposed to come out simultaneously with the new iPhones and iOS 18. But according to Bloomberg, there has been a hitch, and the feature is failing to get finished in time.

Apple is richly late on AI. The launch of iOS 18 would ensure that Apple managed to reconnect. Indeed, the flagship feature of version 18 is Apple Intelligence; Apple's own spin on AI. But customers will have to be patient for a while; developers, for that matter, will not.

Because still this week, a beta of iOS 18.1 is expected to be released for developers to work with. They can then play with Apple Intelligence's features and integrate them into their own apps. iOS 18.1 should be released to users sometime in October. By then, the iPhone 16 and iOS 18 will have already been released.

Apple Intelligence in Europe

Why Apple Intelligence has been delayed remains unknown. Apple previously announced that Apple Intelligence would come later in Europe. Apple took longer to investigate how Apple Intelligence should correctly deal with the European Digital Markets Act (DMA).
