A render of the Samsung Flip 5 has appeared for the first time. This foldable device will most likely be announced in late July during a special Unpacked Event and features a new type of hinge and a much larger outer screen.
Samsung continues to make progress with its foldable phones. The next generation Flip looks more like an evolution than a revolution, as evidenced by its strong resemblance to the Flip 4. The differences are subtle but present.
For example, the outer screen on the Flip 5 is many times bigger and also has an unusual shape. Expect it to be 3.4 inches in diameter, significantly larger than the current 1.9 inches. Something that does not become clear from the render is the introduction of a new hinge. This allows the Z Flip 5 to fold completely flat. The Z Flip 4 still has a small gap when folded. It was previously suggested that Samsung made the crease less visible, but whether that is the case remains to be seen.
Notice and take down
In the meantime, Samsung is not very happy with these leaked renders. The source has taken the images offline, probably because of threats by Samsung.
From our experience, we know that Samsung is threatening to deny access to Unpacked events and review models. Some websites post their press releases and reviews simultaneously at the same time as Samsung's embargo expires. Some websites depend on this and want to keep these privileges at all costs. Images shared via Twitter have also been removed at Samsung's request.
