Nothing will unveil its new Nothing Phone 2a on March 5. The British company has already released the design of the device, as well as some specifications, but is now making headlines. In fact, we get a glimpse into the design process and see designs that didn't make it.
The Nothing Phone (2a) promises to be an inexpensive everyday phone with fine performance, good endurance and more than good cameras on the back. And all that will look like this.
So far, nothing new. However, in an interview with Wallpaper, Nothing gave an insight into the design process of the Phone 2a. Usually we don't see any of this and companies keep it a secret. But as is well known by now from Nothing, they do things a little differently. And in doing so, despite a small marketing budget, they manage to generate quite a bit of publicity.
Nothing Phone 2a prototypes
Nothing manufactures its own prototypes in a warehouse in London. Here, Nothing employes work out the final design before going into mass production. The photos Wallpaper shot here show some of these prototypes that didn't make it.
This shows that Nothing did not immediately have a horizontal camera layout in mind. Nothing experimented with placing the modules above and below each other and diagonally. And Nothing did not immediately agree on the finish of the back either. For example, they even considered a back not entirely transparent, but one with a color.
All in all, it provides an interesting insight we rarely get to see. Most of the images we get to see of unannounced phones are of the final product. Usually because of a leak at a factory or because someone got sloppy with a test device. Leaks from the drawing board are very rare. Unless, as now, a manufacturer reveals them themselves.
The Nothing Phone (2a) will be fully unveiled at a special event in London on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. The device will be powered by a MediaTek-modified chip called the Dimensity 7200 Pro.
