Xiaomi explained its new operating system, HyperOS, during MWC. All new phones will be equipped with it from now on, but some existing phones will also get an update. Are you wondering which ones? We list them here.
HyperOS is the name of Xiaomi's interface for Android, replacing MIUI. It is intended for smartphones, tablets, and wearables like smartwatches. The new OS will be used for future-released phones, including the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra.
HyperOS is also coming to these smartphones as a separate update somewhere in the first half of 2024:

According to Xiaomi, it has worked for seven years on HyperOS and should eventually run on phones, IoT devices, and even cars such as the recently announced SU7. The OS is several GBs smaller in size, leaving more space for your content.
Xiaomi also promises that HyperOS is faster with less latency for everyday activities. Xiaomi took inspiration from nature for the interface, with elements resembling glass, soft colors, and with many curves. It still looks a bit like MIUI, though, but less over the top.
AI apps
By default, HyperOS has some AI features, including 'AI photo search,' where you can search for photos in your photo library using text. Another interesting app is 'AI Portrait'. This app uses existing selfies and turns you into a digital version. By entering a location, it tries to create a portrait image of you at that place.
Create a portrait of yourself at a Christmas party without ever being there. Created pictures will be watermarked to avoid confusion.
AI Expansion
'AI Expansion' is another app similar to Samsung's Galaxy AI. Where Samsung uses AI's capabilities to rotate photos without distorting them, Xiaomi uses it to make pictures larger than they initially were.
Again, the resulting image is watermarked with the text "Generated by AI." Those who want to be the first to take advantage of these apps should opt for the Xiaomi 14 or 14 Ultra, which are shipped with HyperOS. Or you'll have to wait until sometime in the first half of 2024 before HyperOS comes to existing Xiaomi phones.
