Apple announced iPhone 16th; first with proprietary modem
Apple has just posted the iPhone 16e on its website. The device succeeds the iPhone SE (2022) in terms of price, but is actually an iPhone 14 with the camera of an iPhone 15 and the processor of an iPhone 16.
Those looking at the list of specifications for the iPhone 16e will see many familiar things. It looks like Apple has cobbled together leftover components from the iPhone 14 and 15 to make a Frankenstein phone.

Thus, the screen of the 16e is the same as the one in the iPhone 14, that is, including the challenged notch. This screen measures 6.1 inches with a peak brightness of 1200 nits. The 48+12MP rear camera is the same as in the iPhone 15. Only the A18 chip is brand new, and needed to support Apple Intelligence.
First with its own modem
And yet the Apple iPhone 16e will go down in the history books for being the first iPhone equipped with Apple's own modem. Apple has been working on that for some time but so far they couldn't get it production-ready. Apple therefore used Qualcomm's modems in its phones.

Apple claims up to 26 hours of video playback time with the C1 modem on the A18 chip. By comparison; on the iPhone 16, which is also equipped with an A18, apple claims 22 hours of continuous video playback.
iPhone 16e pricing
Despite Apple putting the iPhone 16e down as an inexpensive iPhone, a €719 must be paid for one. For that, you also get a paltry 128 GB of storage. You also have to share that space with the iOS 18 operating system so subtract about 10GB from that.

For the 256GB model you pay €849 and for 512GB it even comes well over the thousand-euro mark; €1099. Available colors are limited; white and black. Ordering is possible starting Feb. 21 at 2 p.m., with delivery starting Feb. 28.
