Samsung showed off a smartphone display with a peak brightness of "over 2,000 nits" during the CES trade show in Las Vegas. Expect the panel to be used in the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra was already rumored to get an extra-bright screen of around 2000 nits. The higher this number, the better the screen can be viewed outdoors in full daylight. Exactly how many nits the UDR 2000 screen has is still unknown; Samsung states "higher than 2000 nits."
Apple claims its iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have a peak brightness of up to 2000 nits. Whether the UDR 2000 will exceed that and how much remains to be seen. We may hear soon because the panel is expected to be used in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. That device is due sometime in February.
UDR 2000
It was previously rumored that the S23 Ultra would get a brighter screen than the 1750 nits bright panel found in the S22 Ultra. It was suggested that this would be over 2000 nits. Calling the panel UDR 2000 may seem confusing in that regard. Samsung's exact motivations will become apparent when the S23 Ultra is officially announced.
