Garmin has released its ECG app for the European market as well as Australia. Together with a suitable Garmin smartwatch, it allows users to record heart rhythm and detect irregularities such as atrial fibrillation (afib).
Garmin smartwatches that can handle this are the Venu 3 and fenix 8 models. All suitable watches can be found at garmin.com/ECG.
The app was already available in the U.S. but is now rolling out to multiple countries. With the app, it is possible to take a 30-second heart clip. From this, irregularities such as atrial fibrillation can be automatically recognized. The heart rate results can be viewed on the smartwatch and in the Garmin Connect companion app. You can even share them with your doctor, should the need arise.
Other smartwatches with ECG
Garmin is not unique with recognizing Afib, the Apple Watch has been able to do it for some time, and Fitbit, Samsung and Google also offer smartwatches with ECG functionality and Afib recognition. Approval is needed to allow this and therefore it sometimes takes longer before it is allowed.
