The impossible has happened; Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S21 FE. For a while we thought it would never come but it is finally here. But who is it meant for?
Samsung has a pretty clear line up of mobile phones. You want an affordable phone? Then you should take a look at the Galaxy A series. You want a high-end phone with a lots of features? Then look no further than the Galaxy S series. This Galaxy S21 FE sits somewhat in between. It's a premium mid-range phone with high-end performance. Are you still with us?
At the front of the S21 FE we find a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a crisp FHD+ resolution and smooth 120Hz playback. That means panel is slightly larger than the one on the regular S21. On the back, both phones look very similar except that the Fan Edition's camera module is made of plastic. It contains a 12MP wide-angle, 12MP ultra-wide-angle and an 8MP telephoto camera with 30x Space Zoom. The selfie camera contains a 32MP sensor.
First Galaxy with Android 12 + One UI 4
Compared to the standard S21, the S21 Fan Edition has a larger battery of 4500 mAh. Just like its brother, it can be quick charged with 25W wired and wirelessly with up to 15W. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is the first Galaxy sold with Android 12 out of the box. Samsung uses its own One UI 4 skin for an even more user-friendly experience.
Unwanted competition
Samsung gives the Galaxy S21 FE 5G a suggested retail price of €749. For this you get the model with 128 GB of storage. Available colors are Lavender, Olive, White and Graphite. The device is available immediately. There is also a version with 256GB of memory, which costs €819.
That price seems decent for a device with this kind of specs and performance. But because the 1 year old S21 has dropped in price substantially, it now competes with it directly. In fact, at the moment the S21 is even cheaper than a S21 FE which makes the choice even more difficult.
