Realme: future GT Neo 5 can fast charge with 240W

If you already thought the 150 Watts at which the realme GT neo3 can be fast charged was a lot, wait until you hear this. Realme is announcing 240 Watts fast charging for the yet unannounced GT Neo5.

The days of having to charge your phone all night are long gone. In an hour, most current smartphones are charged. Some even get the job done in half an hour. But that's still to the disliking of realme. They want to bring that down even further, although it remains unclear to what extent. For that, we must first wait until the launch of the GT Neo5.

Pre-announcement of the realme GT Neo5

Realme will officially announce the GT Neo5 sometime in February. Perhaps during the MWC event in Barcelona that starts Feb. 27. In a post on Weibo, realme reveals that 240W is currently the most that's possible with USB-C.

USB Power Delivery or SuperVOOC

It is still a little unclear whether realme is planning to use the USB Power Delivery standard or its own standard. However, the 2.1 revision of the USB Type-C standard released in May 2022 enabled 240W charging, so Power Delivery is a suitable candidate.

However, parent company Oppo also has a SuperVOOC version that can also handle 240W. This standard demonstrated at MWC 2022 can fully charge a phone battery in nine minutes. However, the technology has not yet been used in a phone to date.
