Oppo again shows foldable Find N5, no thicker than 2 coins

Oppo has distributed a new image of the foldable Find N5. This foldable is supposed to be very thin, possibly the thinnest foldable yet. Exactly how thin they show well in this released photo.

We see a corner of the Oppo Find N5 with two coins stacked on top of each other next to it. Nothing special except that the Find N5 is as thin as the money. A quick Google search reveals that it is an old Chinese 1 yuan coin that was minted until 2019.

This coin has a diameter of 25 millimeters and a thickness of 1.85 millimeters. And that leads us to the unreal conclusion that the Oppo Find N5 is roughly 3.7 millimeters thick when unfolded. A fact we can hardly believe. Even if the Find N5 were slightly thicker, say 4.5 millimeters, this would already be a huge achievement.

Half thinner than iPhone

Although it should be noted that the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is already very thin at 5.1 millimeters opened. What matters is what the thickness is when the device is folded. After all, that's what you carry around in your pocket. Oppo released more photos, including one where the device is next to an iPhone. The Oppo then appears to be about half as thin.

Even the upcoming iPhone 17 Air will have a tough time beating the Oppo Find N5. The thickness of the iPhone Air is likely to come out at 5.5 millimeters. And as it looks now, Oppo is below that.

It looks very much like phones can't get much thinner than that. Why? Well, the USB port is either that thick, or it too has to go. It could in theory; we can now charge phones at lightning speed wirelessly with technologies like Qi2 and AirVOOC. But that might be something for another time. For now, this Find N5 simply features a USB-C connector for old-fashioned wired charging.
