Google posted a message on X with a cryptic description. Decoding the binary message, we read, "Fresh year, fresh drop." If we click on the link, it becomes clear what awaits us on Jan. 25.
Indeed, a new, fresh color is coming out for the Google Pixel 8 Pro. And its name is Minty Fresh. Along with street artist Ricardo Gonzalez, Google will unveil this new color on Jan. 25 at 11 am EST.
Although it says "Pixel 8" in the image above, we do see a Pixel 8 Pro. That model is the only one available in the color blue. If the green Pixel 8 is announced, it will be the fourth color. The 8 Pro was already available in Blue, Porcelain, and Obsdian.
Fate of Pixel 8 Minty Fresh is uncertain
It is unclear whether the new color is also coming to the Google Pixel 8. That device is available in Hazel, Rose, and Obsdian. The Hazel version has a gray/green color. Another green version would be redundant.
Releasing a new color is a tried and familiar method for manufacturers to boost sales. Though for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, that seems a bit early. After all, both devices were announced in October 2023, just three months ago at the time of writing. The Minty Fresh version may be available exclusively from the Google Store.
