MKBHD tests Samsung Moohan glasses with Android XR
Google and Samsung are both working on a competitor to the Apple Vision Pro. Samsung has already shown off these Mixed Reality glasses, codenamed Moohan. Marques Brownlee was allowed to test the glasses and shares his findings with us.
You could wait for it, of course; Samsung had to and would come out with its own Apple Vision Pro. But not before Google would develop the software for it. And behold Android XR. An operating system for mixed, virtual and augmented reality. And just like Android for phones, it allows any manufacturer to release its own glasses.
The glasses themselves show similarities to the Vision Pro. For example, the front is made of glass and the glasses can be made tighter or looser with a dial. There is even an external battery pack. There are also differences. For example, your eyes are not shown in front of the glass and the battery pack is paired via a USB-C cable. So in theory, you could pair a larger powerbank and work longer.
Android XR
Google had already shared a screenshot of Android XR and they match what MKBHD shows. For example, there are windows in which apps run and they can be controlled with your hands. There are no controllers although Marques thinks there will be eventually.
Android XR can download apps from the Play Store, and these can be phone and tablet apps. There are also special spatial apps for the glasses including YouTube. So there is no shortage of apps. In addition to control via hand gestures, Gemini Live is also at your disposal. This can perform actions for you, providing an additional operating option. A handy one, MKBHD notes.

Release in 2025
The Moohan glasses look production-ready and Samsung is therefore targeting a release sometime in 2025. Prices are not yet known but what is clear is that Apple has a competitor. One with AI functionality.
