Asus unveiled the ROG Phone 8 Series at the CES trade show. The gaming device features the same 6.78-inch large Samsung AMOLED display yet is more compact. For this, Asus did have to make some concessions.
The question is whether gamers will appreciate this. For example, the selfie camera on the ROG Phone 8 now sits inside the screen rather than above it like on the ROG Phone 7. Also, the battery is much smaller, 5500 instead of 6000mAh. According to Asus, that's still enough for three and a half hours of heavy gaming.
Asus once again uses a Samsung screen panel measuring 6.78 inches in size. This time, it has a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, making it better readable outdoors. On the back, we see the Aura RGB lighting. This can notify you of incoming calls or messages by illuminating the ROG Fearless Eye logo. If you want more personalization, then you might want to look at the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro. This one features 341 individually controllable LEDs.
Accessories
Like previous ROG phones, the Phone 8 can be upgraded with the AeroActive Cooler X, which is a separate accessory that features a built-in fan to cool the device even more. The AeroActive Cooler X also features two physical buttons you can use while gaming. You can purchase the ROG Tessen Mobile Controller if you want more buttons. That completely transforms the device into a gaming console and controller.
The Asus ROG Phone 8 will be in stores from Jan. 31 for a suggested retail price of 1099 euros. For this, you get 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There are black and gray colors to choose between.
