The market for small compact smartphones is small yet Oppo and OnePlus see plenty of opportunity. Both are said to be working on such a compact model. Although compact is a relative term here.
For example, Oppo is said to be working on the Find X8 Mini; a compact addition to the Find X8 series. Despite the mini name, the device will have a 6.31-inch display. For comparison; that's just bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 from 2017; a big phone we called a phablet back then.
Still, the Oppo Find X8 Mini should feel more manageable thanks to very thin screen bezels. Other specifications include a two Sony cameras including with optical zoom, a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor and a 1.5K sharp display with optical fingerprint scanner.
OnePlus faithfully follows
OnePlus is also reportedly looking to release a similar phone. This is not surprising considering that Oppo and OnePlus are owned by the same company; BBK Electronics. OnePlus was even founded by former Oppo bosses Pete Lau and Carl Pei.
OnePlus' still unnamed compact phone is said to get the same 6.31-inch 1.5K-resolution screen. Difference, however, is the power source; OnePlus is said to be eyeing the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This fact suggests that we it's going to be a pricey model.
